  • 2023 Univ. Prof. DDr. Bernadette Kamleitner becomes Vice-Rector for Research and Third Mission. PD Mag. Dr. Monika Koller takes over as Head of the Institute.

  • 2023 With the title "Ownership Reloaded", the third interdisciplinary workshop on ownership takes place at WU.

  • 2022 Together with the WU Library, the POP Collection (Possession, Ownership and Property) is ceremonially opened. This physical and digital collection contains some of the most important scientific publications on the topics of possession and property.

  • 2021 Our SBWL "Marketing and Consumer Research" is now also an elective for the new English-language bachelor's program Business and Economics (BBE). This offers a broad economic education with an international perspective. Economic challenges, social developments and future trends are considered in a global context. In this way, students learn to understand and shape the international economy.

  • 2019 Dissolution of the association "WWG Forum Marketing" (1955-2015 "Österreichische Werbewissenschaftliche Gesellschaft").

  • 2018 The Institute is now also represented on Instagram. Short and concise insights into research and teaching are provided.

  • 2017 "The Future of Ownership Research" is the theme of the second interdisciplinary workshop on ownership organized by the Institute.

  • 2015 Under the motto "60 Years of Discovery", m.core and WWG Forum Marketing celebrate their joint anniversary.

  • 2015 The Department of Marketing, together with the Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP), organized the second international conference on consumer psychology at WU. 150 international marketing experts from academia and practice from over 17 countries attended SCP Vienna, entitled "Creative Destruction".

  • 2015 Univ. Prof. DDr. Bernadette Kamleitner becomes president of the Werbewissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (2016-2019 WWG Forum Marketing).

  • 2014 The Institute launches the first blog on "ownership" thescienceofownership.org and builds an international, interdisciplinary "ownership community".

  • 2014 The first issue of the newsletter "m.core in focus" is published.

  • 2013 The Institute organizes the first interdisciplinary and international "Workshop on Ownership and Decision Making" at the new campus.

  • 2013 WU moves to the new campus in the 2nd district. Official opening takes place on October 4th.

  • 2012 Prof. DDr. Bernadette Kamleitner succeeds Prof. Dr. Günter Schweiger as head of the institute. The research focus of the scientific staff has taken a new direction over time. Therefore, in spring 2013, the institute is renamed from "Werbewissenschaft und Marktforschung" to "Marketing & Consumer Research" (m.core).

  • 2009 On September 30th, Prof. Dr. Günter Schweiger retires after 35 years. The temporary head of institute is taken over by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Mayerhofer. From the beginning, the head of institute has significantly influenced and supported the internationalization of the University of Economics. Prof. Dr. Günter Schweiger was the founding chairman of the Commission for International Contacts. The staff of the Institute is involved as cooperation officers in the following student exchange programs: FGV Sao Paulo Fundacao Getulio Vargas, Brazil Univerza v Mariboru, Slovenia University of Ljubljana, Slovenia University of Primorska, Slovenia.

  • 2005 The chair "Werbewissenschaft und Marktforschung" celebrates its 50th anniversary. Due to changes in university structure, the chair becomes the "Institute of Werbewissenschaft und Marktforschung".

  • 1985 Prof. Dr. Günter Schweiger becomes president of the Werbewissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (2016-2019 WWG Forum Marketing).

  • 1983 Since this year, "Werbewissenschaft und Marktforschung" has been able to make a significant name for itself in research and teaching. It has always been a special concern of the chair to offer studies that are as practical as possible as well as progressive. Significant projects were realized with this goal in mind.

  • 1982 WU, still under Hertha Firnberg, moved to the newly built University Center Althanstraße (UZA 1, northern part) above the freight station of the Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof in the 9th district.

  • 1975 Prof. Dr. Günter Schweiger is appointed head of the chair "Werbewissenschaft und Marktforschung".

  • 1974 Dr. Günter Schweiger becomes o. University Professor and scientific director of the "Universitätslehrgangs für Werbung und Verkauf".

  • 1955 The Chair "Werbewissenschaft und Marktforschung" is founded by Univ. Prof. Dr. Karl Skowronnek (1902-1976) at the "Hochschule für Welthandel". At the same time, the "Werbewissenschaftliche Gesellschaft" (2016-2019 WWG Forum Marketing) is founded, dedicated to the transfer between science and practice.

  • 1949 The "Universitätslehrgangs für Werbung und Verkauf" (now Marketing & Sales) welcomes its first students as an institution for extra-occupational study program.

  • 1910 Viktor Mataja (1857-1934) publishes his book "Die Reklame," which is still considered a classic today. Mataja is thus the pioneer of German-language advertising science. An advertising medium that is hardly known today also dates from this time - the "Reklamemarke". Here you will find the unique collection of advertising stamps.

  • 1898 Foundation of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (at that time still "k.k. Exportakademie"). At that time, however, advertising was not yet taken into account in higher education.
