Biographical Sketch

Verena Madner is a professor of public law, environmental law, and public and urban governance. She is head of the Institute for Law and Governance and co-head of the Research Institute for Urban Management and Governance. Verena Madner is a legal scholar with more than 25 years of experience in research in the fields of governance, globalization and international trade as well as environmental, planning and infrastructure law. She has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research, including multilevel policy and urban governance. She has conducted several research projects on EU trade agreements, smart cities, public participation, sustainable urban development, energy transitions, and urban climate change policy. Verena Madner is involved in several research networks on environmental law and governance, such as the Avosetta Group on Environmental Law and the European Environmental Law Forum.

From 2008 to 2014, Verena Madner chaired the Austrian Independent Environmental Senate. Verena Madner has been vice-president of the Austrian Constitutional Court since 2020.
