PeerPulse: app that changes the university experience

03/08/2024

Summer Semester 2024 / PeerPulse

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

PeerPulse is a student-focused mobile application designed to enhance social connections and interactions on university campuses. Through our platform, students can easily discover who is nearby and interested in activities like studying, grabbing coffee, or attending events. Our app simplifies the process of organizing meetups, helping students build meaningful relationships and navigate university life more effectively.

Goal

This project focuses on providing hands-on experience in the creation of a startup. It is crucial to identify the target customers and tailor the strategy to meet their needs. The goal is to be able to do all tasks of being an entrepreneur, beginning with idea creation until presenting the idea to investors.

Methodology

Firstly, we worked on a different idea. But after conducting our first round of market research, it became apparent that there was no significant demand for the concept we had envisioned. Collaborative brainstorming led us to another idea that addressed student needs more effectively—the development of PeerPulse. We again conducted new market research to better understand the challenges faced by students in connecting with their peers on campus. This research included many interviews with students around universities in Vienna (WU, TU), as these are our target customers. Additionally, we distributed an online survey through Reddit.com to gather broader insights. Following this, we analyzed the competitive landscape and formulated a detailed financial plan. On our journey, we had many workshops which gave us missing knowledge.

Results

We've identified university campuses as our primary target market and have uncovered the key challenges students face in connecting with their peers effectively. PeerPulse's ultimate goal is to offer its solution to the broader university community, enhancing social integration and fostering meaningful connections among students. Additionally, we've developed a concept of partnering with university-affiliated organizations and businesses located close to campus. In terms of revenue streams, partnerships with those, subscription fees, and in-app adds are anticipated to be the main source of income.
