GenZ GlobeTrotters:
Innovating Travel for the Next Generation

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In Autumn 2023, our team collaborated with UNIQA to create digital solutions for Gen Z's travel needs. Through Design Thinking and user feedback, we developed a prototype enhancing travel with sustainability and digital engagement, aiming to enrich UNIQA's offerings for eco- conscious travelers.

Goal

The project aimed to create digital solutions for UNIQA, targeting Generation Z in Austria with a focus on sustainable and comfortable travel, leveraging digital tools for planning and enhancing travel experiences. This initiative seeks to establish a first point of contact between UNIQA and Gen Z, fostering long-term customer relationships.

Methodology

Design Thinking, a user-centric iterative process involving empathy, ideation, prototyping, and testing, was the methodology employed in this project to creatively solve problems.

  1. Empathize: Conducted 82 interviews with Gen Z to understand travel preferences.

  2. Define: Analyzed data to pinpoint core user needs and problems.

  3. Ideate: Brainstormed over 60 digital solution ideas.

  4. Prototype: Created tangible models for feasibility and impact

    assessment.

  5. Test: Evaluated prototypes with target demographic for refinement.

  6.

Results

After analyzing data, we created personas to encapsulate Gen Z's travel preferences, focusing on sustainable travel, comfort, and digital tools for planning. These personas directed our project's next phases to specifically address Gen Z's travel needs and frustrations.

  1. Maximilian Hauser: A 22-year-old student who treasures adventure, seeking freedom and global friendships through travel.

  2. Marie Winkler: A 20-year-old driven by efficiency and the allure of Instagram-famous locations, emphasizing travel's social media aspect.

  3.

  1. Sofia Mariotti: A 19-year-old committed to sustainable travel, favoring eco-friendly options like train travel, despite budgetary considerations.

  2. Vishnu Dolanay: An environmentally conscious traveler, preferring serene, off-the-beaten-path destinations that resonate with his nature-centric lifestyle.

  3.

According to these personas, we prototyped and tested the following features in the frame of an app:

  1. Travel Pharmacy: Features customizable first-aid kits and region- specific health recommendations to enhance travel safety and convenience.

  2. Travel Terminal App: Integrates travel companion info, document management, and regional warnings for informed travel planning.

  3. Fun Travel App: Includes a points system and competitions to make the travel experience more enjoyable and engaging.
