Dissertations

Guidelines

A dissertation concept must be submitted prior to an initial meeting with ao. Univ. Prof. Dr. Erna Nairz. Please note that only topics that fall within the field of educational science can be supervised.

Dissertation Concept

The dissertation concept should clearly outline the dissertation project. In addition, the dissertation concept should demonstrate that the dissertation candidate is capable of independently designing and implementing the dissertation project as a research project. Of course, dissertation candidates are supervised during their work on the dissertation; however, it must be assumed that someone writing a dissertation requires less supervision in quantitative terms and is nevertheless capable of producing and presenting research that is quantitatively and qualitatively far above the average level of a diploma thesis or master's thesis.

The dissertation concept is expected to be formally—and thus also linguistically and orthographically—largely flawless. The dissertation concept should have the following structure:

Introductory Presentation of a clear Research Question

Explanatory Notes

  • Taking into account the above guidelines, the treatise should be at least 30 pages long.

  • If (prospective) doctoral candidates lack the skills to develop a clear dissertation concept or to carry out a dissertation project, this is their responsibility. It is up to them to acquire the necessary skills through self-study or by attending relevant seminars or continuing education courses. Attending a doctoral seminar certainly cannot replace all of this.
