WU Award for "Innovative Teaching 2016"

17/10/2016

Jan Christoph Heiser from the Education Sciences Group was honored with one of the WU awards for “Innovative Teaching 2016".

The award acknowledges outstanding course designs that incorporate new ideas and approaches in the field of university teaching and learning. The consecutive course concept "Educational Science I+II" was recognized by an interdisciplinary review group.

The review group's reasoning:

"The submitted course concept ”Educational Science I + II" is aimed at students in the Business Education master program. Although neither the didactic-methodological elements used in this seminar nor their combination are particularly new, the combination of two courses links theory and practice, which generates reflective added value for the students.

The [...] didactic reflection of the course concept is very successful, and a high level of commitment was demonstrated, particularly in the design of the examination instruments. Great importance is attached to a development-related approach, which can be considered unusual in university practice and innovative. [...]

The critical reflection on their own profession, which students are confronted with during the seminar, is considered an essential aspect of their education."

A brief description will soon be available in the Teaching & Learning Academy

This year, there were more submissions in the Innovative Teaching category than ever before. For the first time, all research, teaching, and student awards were presented by the Rectorate at a joint event - the "WU Awards" on June 16, 2016.
