Workshop Edwin Hoffman

During the workshop, Edwin will present his inclusive approach to intercultural communication. He will put his practice-oriented approach up for discussion, with the aim of exploring, together with the participants, how professionals working in a multicultural, international context can be best supported effectively, and what the implications are for teaching and learning in higher education.

Edwin will then introduce the TOPOI model, which he developed, as a practical tool for identifying and addressing various potential communication issues. Finally, participants will learn to apply the TOPOI model in practice using two case studies.

About:

PhD Edwin Hoffman (born in Indonesia, Dutch nationality, living in Austria) is an independent trainer, lecturer, and author of inclusive communication. In addition, he is an external lecturer at the Alpen Adria University in Klagenfurt, Austria. Edwin is the creator of the slogan "Cultures don’t meet, people do" and he developed the TOPOI-model: an analytical tool to detect possible misunderstandings during or after an intercultural conversation.

He has several publications to his name, of which the most important are in English, together with Arjan Verdooren Diversity Competence.
