The Research Institute for Economics of Aging originated from the long lasting cooperation between the City of Vienna and the Vienna University of Economics and Business. It provides a platform for research on the economics of aging which is already conducted in the various departments of the Vienna University of Economics, and also seeks to reach out to other aging research centres around the world. The Institute became operative in autumn 2006.
The institute’s researchers deal with economic issues of an aging society. The main focus of this research is on topics like elderly people’s socio-economic status, costs of long term care or the productive contributions of older people in society.
