18th FIW Research Conference 2026

The FIW Research Centre International Economics is pleased to announce its 18th Research Conference on International Economics.
The conference will take place at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna) on 19th–20th February 2026.
The conference aims to provide a platform for economists to present their recent research in the field of International Economics. We particularly encourage submissions from Ph.D. students, early-career faculty members, and young researchers to foster their development and provide networking opportunities.

Professor Lionel Fontagné (Institute for Macroeconomic and International Policies (i‑MIP), Paris School of Economics)

Lionel Fontagné is Chaired Professor at the Paris School of Economics, and Director of the Institute for Macroeconomic and International Policies (i-MIP, Paris).
He has written numerous studies on international trade, trade policy as well as trade and environment issues. In 1999, Open Economies Review recognized Prof. Fontagné for his joint-contribution to the debate on the endogenous symmetry of shocks in monetary unions. In 2008, he was awarded an Emerald Management Reviews Citation of Excellence for his contribution to the understanding of the economic impact of the competition of emerging countries. In 2007 and in 2018 as well, he was awarded the Research Fellowship of GTAP (Global Trade Analysis Project, Purdue University). In 2023 he was inducted into the GTAP Research Fellow Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to trade policy analysis. He is also a CESifo Research Fellow (Munich).
 

Awards

Two prizes will be awarded for outstanding contributions to the conference:

  • Best Conference Paper Award 2026: €1,000

  • Young Economist Award 2026: €1,000

Note: To qualify for the Young Economist Award, all authors of the paper must be 34 years old or younger at the time of submission.
