Campus WU - the perfect venue for the Vienna Orienteering Challenge

01. September 2019

On 1 September the WU campus was the competition area for the final stage of the Vienna Orienteering Challenge, an international multi-day sport event, organized by MSc Marketing student Erik Simkovics. 360 athletes from 21 countries participated in the first edition of Vienna Orienteering Challenge. The winners of the final stage on Campus WU were Alice Leake from Great Britain and the World Championships silver medalist Tim Robertson from New Zealand.

In the afternoon 80 mixed relay teams participated in the Vienna Sprint Relay in the same area but on new courses. The top 3 teams were from Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.

The WU campus proved to be a perfect venue for an orienteering event. Orienteering exercises body and mind, and is a university sport with long tradition. The Vienna university sports institute (USI) offers two orienteering events per year and a USI class where students can learn orienteering.
