SPES Future Academy: Integration in diverse societies

24/11/2025

At the symposium in Linz, full-time employees and volunteers discussed: How do we create a "we" in diverse societies?

At the "Integration of the Future" symposium held by the SPES Future Academy at the Ursulinenhof in Linz, full-time staff and volunteers from communities, associations, schools and organizations discussed the central question: How does a "we" emerge in a diverse society? Judith Kohlenberger shed light on the exclusions and inclusions of political "we" narratives. Using the example of the American constitution, which begins with a grand "we" claim, she showed how this claim could never be fully realized historically - and what challenges this poses for modern pluralistic democracies. The event was dedicated to best practice examples in the areas of "Showing attitude", "Strengthening participation", "Building relationships" and "Living community". Dr. Christian Dörfel reported on current developments in the department.
