Conference Social(i)makers

Shaping social innovation: An interesting afternoon dedicated to social innovation and social entrepreneurship

Together with the NPO & SE Competence Center and arbeit plus, ZSI invited to the event "Shaping Social Innovation" at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration on September 5, 2018, and simultaneously launched the Social(i)Makers "Social Innovation Academy". The first two lectures were given by Stefanie Smoliner (ZSI) on the differences and similarities of social innovation, social entrepreneurship and social impacts and by Katharina Handler (ZSI) on the landscape of socially innovative projects and actors in Austria.

Afterwards Olivia Rauscher and Christian Grünhaus (prev. Schober, NPO & SE Competence Center) presented the new and revised edition of their book "Social Return on Investment Analysis. Measuring the Impact of Social Investment". In addition to the basics of SROI analysis, the individual chapters of the book were introduced and the background and history of the book were told.

Finally, the panel discussion with four very different social enterprises offered interesting insights into the practical implementation of socially innovative ideas. Marisa Mühlböck from discovering hands Austria, Daniela Schallert from ABZ*Austria, Perrine Schober from SHADES Tours and Stefan Steinberger from refugees{code} / New Austrian Coding School talked about their path to becoming social entrepreneurs, the challenges they face in their work and the positive effects they achieve with their projects. An exciting and stimulating discussion with the participants and an informal conclusion with a buffet rounded off the successful conference.
