SROI analysis of the "Tibor-háza" ("For equal opportunities!") project

Tibor háza was established to expand the idea of improving living conditions for people with disabilities in Hungary. Through the Hungarian foundation "For Equal Opportunities!", which has already built several facilities, it was constructed as an additional residential house to the existing facilities in Csömör-Budapest. The construction of this house was made possible by the awarding of the Essl Social Prize in 2009, which provided a prize money of one million euros.

In all residential and work facilities, the principle of normalization is pursued, ensuring that even individuals with severe or multiple disabilities receive individualized care and support. All adult individuals with cognitive and physical impairments are provided with a regular daily routine that separates work, leisure, and living as much as possible. Tibor háza is a modern facility that was opened in 2010.

Subsequently, the Essl Foundation approached the NPO & SE Competence Center to have the project evaluated.

The evaluation was conducted using a Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis, aiming to comprehensively capture and assess the social value created by the Tibor háza project. The method seeks to measure not only the financial but also the explicit social impacts of the organizations. The central research question was, "What is the monetized total benefit resulting from each euro invested in the Tibor háza residential facility for people with disabilities?" The evaluation period covered the year 2013.

In summary, it can be stated that the Tibor háza project demonstrates significant social impacts in its fourth year of existence: By comparing the investments made in 2013 to the total benefits, an SROI value of 2.05 was derived. The monetized impacts were thus twice as high as the investments made. The most significant impacts for the residents can be summarized as adequate accommodation and an improved quality of life, which together contribute to a better living situation.
