Guest Speaker: Atıl Kutoglu explained his successful journey in the Fashion world.

Famous Austrian-Turkish designer Atıl Kutoglu was a guest speaker in the elective bachelor course Fashion Marketing on 22 November 2022. Mr. Kutoglu told his successful journey in the international fashion arena. After graduating from the German High school in Istanbul he came to Vienna to study Business Administration at WU in 1988 where he had one of his first catwalks on our old campus. After meeting with the mayor of Vienna, Dr. Helmut Zilk on the tram by chance he introduced himself and after being evaluated by the Fashion Secretary of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, he received support and funding, so he could present his first collection in 1991. He also had many awards starting with the ``best young designer award`` in Munich Fashion Week in 1992, followed by the  ``Salzburg Price`` in 1993 (given by the Austrian and German Publishers Guild), International Wool Secretary the "DIVA-Woolmart"  Award for the best Austrian fashion designer`` in 1994 and finally, in 2013 he received Golden Cross for Science and Art from the Austrian Government, given by Claudia Schmidt  (the Ministry of Culture and Education). Fashion shows followed in Düsseldorf, Milan, Paris, and New York. He is an active member of the Austrian fashion world since then, nominated as one of the most influential Austrians by News Magazine many times. Lately, he also had collaborations with Altstadt Wien Hotel and the new Julius Meindl Hotel in Prague. In our lesson, he elaborated on the details of creating a successful fashion brand and a competitive advantage. His signature design consists of a unique reflection of the Austrian and Turkish cultures, where he ``mélange`` Jugendstil and Ottoman style. He will also work with our students in the final lesson (1970 Fashion Marketing, Instructor: Dr. Azra Bayraktar) as a project partner where the students will present their brand extension strategies and suggestions for him about different product and website ideas.
