The CA as a “Quasi-Participant"

(Grounded in CA literature on institutional talk & non-human agents)

This thesis investigates how a conversational agent functions as an interactional participant. It analyzes whether the CA displays characteristics typically associated with human participants (e.g., responsiveness, sequential relevance, contingency) or behaves more like a constrained system.

RQ: In what ways does a conversational agent function as an interactional participant in dialogue?

Constraint: This work involves the analysis of human-CA dialogues, which must be analysed with another student between mid-May and end-of-June.
