Bjoern Schmeisser is an Assistant Professor at IIB. He earned his doctoral degree from WU Vienna in 2018 with a dissertation on multinational corporations’ strategies for benefitting from multinationality (dissertation title: “International configuration on value chain networks: a (global) strategy perspective), which was awarded the Stephan-Koren-Prize in 2019 for its contribution to WU’s excellence reputation in research. In 2022, he became an Associate Professor for Strategy and Organization at NHH Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen, Norway, where he leads the Strategy Group (since 2024) and is a member of DIG, Norway’s leading research center on digital transformation and innovation for sustainable growth.

Research interest

Bjoern’s research interest lies in the areas of international business and corporate and global strategy. He is particularly interested in strategies multinational corporations employ to navigate geopolitical turbulences, benefit from operating foreign subsidiary networks across heterogeneous institutional environments, and manage tensions between economic viability and imperatives of resilience and sustainability in a global context.
