Researcher of the Month: Alexander Mürmann, Institute for Finance, Banking and Insurance

The title Researcher of the Month is awarded every month as a special recognition and appreciation of the research achievements of the distinguished person.

Alexander Mürmann

, a native of Germany, is professor of risk management and insurance at WU’s Institute for Finance, Banking and Insurance, program director of the Vienna Graduate School of Finance (VGSF), and heads the Risk & Insurance Management Certificate Program at the WU Executive Academy. He studied mathematics at the University of Bonn and obtained his PhD in economics from the London School of Economics in 2002. He then gained international experience at the Wharton School (Pennsylvania, USA), where he worked as an assistant professor. In 2007, he was appointed as a full professor at WU.

In his research, Alexander Mürmann looks at consumer behavior in the field of insurance, including psychological factors. He also investigates problems related to information and incentives in insurance markets, with a view to applications regarding organizational structures, regulation, and distribution channels in the insurance industry.

Alexander Mürmann has a successful record of publications in numerous international journals such as Management Science, the Journal of Risk and Insurance, and Review of Finance. He is also co-editor of The Geneva Risk and Insurance Review and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Risk and Insurance. Alexander Mürmann has received a number of awards in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements, including the Robert I. Mehr Award and the AXA-EGRIE Prize.
