Mission Statement

The Department of Management strives to create lasting, positive impact through its research, teaching, and engagement with society.

In our research, we aim to generate knowledge that advances theory and rigorous empirical analysis, while also offering practical insights for managers and decision-makers in all sectors—private, public, and non-profit. Across the department’s institutes, we embrace a multi-method and multi-paradigm approach and draw on interdisciplinary perspectives within social sciences and humanities. Through cross-departmental collaboration, we cultivate this diversity as a shared strength that complements the expertise of each institute.

In our teaching, we aim to equip managers and decision-makers with advanced knowledge across sectors. We place particular emphasis on developing responsible leaders who can apply management concepts to real-world challenges in organizations and society. We see this as a holistic mission, one that guides our teaching at all levels—from Bachelor, Master, and PhD programs to executive education.

In our third-mission activities, we aim to inspire audiences beyond the academia. We do not only participate in public debate; we actively help shape it. Through workshops, events, open publications, and other formats, we create spaces for dialogue that connect our expertise with societal conversations.
