Teaching

The ‘Social Innovation’ seminar covers fundamental concepts, approaches and practical examples relating to the development of innovative solutions to societal challenges, for example in the areas of social justice, sustainability, education, health and integration. In particular, the module also focuses on the social innovation ecosystem.

This course focuses on experiential learning: students develop, test and refine social and sustainable business ideas that address key societal challenges.

This course presents and discusses current research concepts relating to social entrepreneurship. At the same time, students work in teams to address a specific issue raised by an external organisation and develop recommendations for action based on a thorough analysis. The course is set within a start-up context: students work with young or entrepreneurial social organisations, or act as founders themselves during the concept development phase.

The course involves an in-depth theoretical and practical examination of the topics of human resources, leadership and organisation. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: (i) describe the key models and concepts in the fields of human resources management, leadership and organisation and apply them to organisational problems; (ii) use basic human resources terminology with confidence, thereby expressing themselves clearly in a professional context; and (iii) to analyse operational problems within a holistic framework, taking into account interrelationships in the areas of human resource management, leadership, organisation and the social context of businesses, and to identify appropriate options for structuring and taking action.

The aim of this module is to specify the research question for the Master’s thesis, to define the research design and to draw up a rough plan for the content and timeline of the thesis. In research seminars, students carry out their own project work in line with the principles of research-based and experience-based learning. These projects may take the form of either academic research projects or application-oriented practical projects, for example in collaboration with representatives from industry.

This course brings cooperative problem-solving processes within groups to life, allowing participants to experience them first-hand. Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be better equipped to cooperate with others and to communicate effectively within groups and teams. The gap between one’s self-perception and how others perceive them is narrowed.
