Aktuelle Forschungsprojekte

  • Language and communication in the context of migrant care work: The case of Ukrainian care workers in Austria

This research project seeks to explore the interrelationship between transnational migration, care labour and language. More specifically, drawing on the in-depth interviews with Ukrainian care workers and Austrian care recipients, the study aims to provide some new insights into the cultural and communicative challenges caregivers and older people encounter in a care setting and how they cope with these challenges. Additionally, the study attempts to take a closer look at the influence of labour migration on the linguistic resources and everyday language practices of the interviewed care workers.
