In his interview with the newspaper DiePresse, published on Thursday, April 28th 2022, Prof. Dr. Werner Hoffmann argues that "firms will need to defend their growth by creating value for all stakeholders, not just for shareholders". Further he argues that the ecologic problems need to be solved by firms.

In memory of Prof. Thomas Mellewigt
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Prof. Thomas Mellewigt who died on June 7, 2021. Thomas was a great co-lecturer in our Elective Strategic Alliances, co-organizer of the Working Group on Strategic Alliances, collaborator in our research projects and a good friend. We will never forget his passion for research and Ironmans as well as his optimism.
We will miss him.

"Austria is suffering from a lack of innovation" - Prof. Hoffmann states in an interview with DiePresse
In his interview with the newspaper "DiePresse" Prof. Dr. Werner Hoffmann argues that "we turn too little inventions into successful commercializations". Austria has to catch up on internationally increasing productivity levels. We need innovation to be applied for digitization and sustainability, two trends that we need to use to decouple economic growth from non-renewable raw materials and emissions.
On May 28,2021 Prof. Dr. Werner Hoffmann will host the "Wiener Strategieforum" at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, which will take place in cooperation with "DiePresse".

According to the recent study "What are the 10 most influential alliance management articles and what do we learn from them? A critical assessment", which was conducted by Karina Bratus & Adrian Schröder together with Prof. Dr. Thomas Mellewigt and Johann Voigtsberger at the Freie Universität Berlin, the above mentioned paper on strategies for managing portfolios of alliances is one of the most often cited articles on alliance management. Prof. Hoffmann's paper "Strategies for managing a portfolio of alliances" published in 2007 in the Strategic Management Journal was ranked among the top 10 of the most influential articles in the research stream of alliance management.
Prof. Hoffmann’s research is about what determines the configuration and evolution of an alliance portfolio. His paper shows that alliance portfolio management follows an evolution from adapting (probing alliances) to shaping (core exploration alliances) and finally stabilizing (exploitation alliances). With these three distinctive types of portfolio strategies at business level the study illustrates and explains developmental paths and patterns in the evolution of an alliance portfolio.

Prof. Werner H. Hoffmann published a newspaper article about governmental measures for boosting entrepreneurship in the newspaper "trend."
The article discusses the governmental measures to strengthen equity capital, reducing red tape and overregulation, as well as increasing available venture capital to improve the start-up ecosystem.

Professor Werner H. Hoffmann has been awarded a WU Award for a Star Journal Article for his paper The Interplay of Competition and Cooperation that he published with Dovev Lavie, Jeffrey J. Reuer and Andrew Shipilov in their Strategic Management Journal Special Issue The Interplay of Competition and Cooperation in 2018.
Professor Werner H. Hoffmann was also awarded a WU Award for Outstanding Research Achievements for his paper with Lukas Meusburger How CEO Values and TMT Diversity Jointly Influence the Corporate Strategy Making Process.
