20 years after Austria’s accession to the Aarhus Convention, the Aarhus guarantees on environmental information, public participation, and access to justice in environmental matters still remain a challenge for the Austrian legal system. In her presentation at the Aarhus seminar on 22 May 2025, organised by the Austrian Academy of Administrative Courts (ÖAVG), LawGov’s Birgit Hollaus delved into the Convention’s access to justice requirements, analysing the current status quo in Austria based on international, EU and national case law, and highlighting the still open questions.
