02/12/2025

On 6 and 7 November 2025 the Planer:innentag 2025 took place at TU Vienna.

On 6 and 7 November 2025 the Planer:innentag 2025 took place at TU Vienna. The event was organised by the Federal Chamber of Chartered Civil Engineers (Bundeskammer der Ziviltechniker:innen), the Austrian Society of Spatial Planning (Österreichische Gesellschaft für Raumplanung), and TU’s Research Unit Law (Forschungsbereich Rechtswissenschaften) with the support of WU’s Institute for Urban Management and Governance.

The topic of this year's Planer:innentag was contractual spatial planning, with a focus on the legal framework, challenges in drafting contracts, and questions of practical implementation. The programme offered a mix of input and insights from academia, legal advisory and municipal practice. On the part of the research institute, Stefan Mayr, in the opening panel, explored to what extent the recent constitutional amendment of May 2024 effectively increases legal certainty in the area of contractual spatial planning. In her presentation on ‘Freedom of information and contractual spatial planning,’ Teresa Weber analysed how the obligations under the new Freedom of Information Act affect contractual spatial planning. The lively discussions on numerous facets of contractual spatial planning on both days underlined the great practical relevance of the topic, and illustrated the opportunities, but also the challenges, that contractual spatial planning brings for municipal planning practice in cities and municipalities throughout Austria.
