As part of the FORM Research Talks, Jacob Richard Thomas will present his book and discuss key findings from his research.

Why do many people not migrate, even though they could in principle emigrate or had originally intended to do so? In his new book , *Denial, Deterrence, and Disenchantment: Why Many Never Immigrate*, Jacob Richard Thomas examines the experiences of potential migrants and highlights the political and social factors that prevent or deter migration.

Drawing on survey and interview data from more than 2,500 potential immigrants from China, Thomas develops new perspectives on migration and expands the classic push-pull model to include the dimensions of push, retain, pull, and repel.
