Journal of Management Studies (JMS) Writing and Publishing Workshop at WU Vienna

16/02/2016

Publishing in high-profile and high-impact academic journals has become increasingly challenging. Despite the conventions about what constitutes a strong and valid theoretical contribution, publishing academic research inevitably takes the shape of craftsmanship that authors (as well as editors and reviewers alike) increasingly – and quite often painfully – learn by doing and experience.

As part of its mission to support the development of doctoral students and junior faculty, the Journal of Management Studies will hold a professional development workshop to help researchers improving their understanding of the expectations of editorial teams at top journals. Led by JMS editors, the workshop will focus on topics such as publishing, writing for impact, reviewing, and managing academic careers more generally.

The workshop is a full-day event sponsored by the Journal of Management Studies and the Department of Management at WU Vienna. The event will take place at WU Vienna on Thursday, March 10, 2016. It will include, among other topics, the editors’ perspectives on publishing in top organization and management journals, and feature examples of papers that successfully made it through the editorial review process.

Workshop attendance is free of charge; registration is required. To ensure effective interaction, the number of attendants will be limited.

The workshop is organized by:

  • Gerardo Patriotta, University of Nottingham

  • Penny Dick, University of Sheffield

  • Renate Meyer, WU Vienna University of Economics and Business

  • Markus Höllerer, WU Vienna University of Economics and Business

We are excited about this new initiative, and we very much look forward to sharing our editorial experience on academic writing and reviewing.
