Credit Transfer: Frequently Asked Questions
1. What kind of courses will I be given credit for?
As Advanced Courses (Vertiefungskurse, VK) we acknowledge those covering the international aspects of marketing that match the scope of the Advanced Courses offered by IMM. Please note that a course needs to have an international perspective to be eligible for credit transfer. Hence, no credit can be given for a regular marketing course without a specific focus on international issues.
Special rules, however, apply to the courses Global Marketing Research and Global Consumer Behavior. In these cases students have to substantiate the claim that the classes attended at other universities fully correspond to the courses offered by IMM with regard to their content (topics covered), quality and depth. For a course to correspond to Global Marketing Research, for instance, you need to prove that you have completed an entire marketing research project including secondary research, qualitative research, quantitative research (questionnaire design), large-scale data collection and data analysis (with SPSS and/or STATA). Please do not apply for the recognition of courses that do not fit these criteria.
2. Which courses cannot be given credit for?
The course Global Marketing Management (Grundkurs) has to be attended at the WU and therefore cannot be given credit for.
3. How do you assess whether a course is eligible for credit transfer or not?
In order to evaluate whether the contents and quality of courses attended abroad comply with what we demand from Advanced Courses or not, we require a course outline (syllabus) containing the topics covered and the literature used. Please click here for a list of courses offered by IMM in order to get an idea of what kind of courses we can give you credit for.
When assessing the quality of other courses, we consider the following points:
university's ranking
name and description of course
course type and modalities (syllabus)
quality of work demanded (e.g. real-life project, team work)
quantity of work demanded (no. of hours in class; ECTS credits, if available).
international context
recommended literature/reading list
mode of assessment and grading guidelines
4. Should I clarify if a course is eligible for credit transfer before I go abroad?
It is highly recommended to clarify credit transfer before you leave. To facilitate the processing of your request, we suggest you follow the following steps:
use the Internet to gather information on our courses
decide on the course credits you would like to have transferred
verify if the contents of the courses are comparable
prepare all forms and documents
Given the great number of inquiries regarding credit transfers, please understand that it is not always possible to discuss each transfer request with every student in person. In order to process your inquiry as soon and as efficient as possible, please send your specific inquiry, containing the course outline (syllabus), ECTS credits and information about the type of IMM course (VK III/VK IV/VK V/VK VI) you want to get credit for, to creditimm@wu.ac.at.

5. I have already been abroad and want to get credit for a course. What should I do?
Please bring all the documents listed below to the Institute during our opening hours.
Required forms and documents:
Form F 35 (the form is available from the Recognition Office at the WU, UZA 1, D, Upper Level 4)
Supplementary Forms (Beilageblätter, in German, download here)

6. I did not check beforehand if the courses I took abroad are eligible for credit transfer. Do I still have a chance to get credit?
Basically yes, as long as the course fits our curricular demands. Send an email to creditimm@wu.ac.at to check if you can get credit. In order to process your inquiry as soon and as efficient as possible, please send your specific inquiry, containing the course outline (syllabus), ECTS credits and information about the type of IMM course (VK III/VK IV/VK V/VK VI) you want to get credit for.
