Research Report on the Evaluation of the Modular Upper Secondary School System (MOST)

The Education Sciences Group has completed an evaluation project commissioned by the Vienna Chamber of Labor on the effectiveness of the modular upper secondary school. This is an innovative educational concept whose implementation is intended to promote individualized learning, enable individual focus areas in line with learners' interests, and foster their independence.

A mixed-method approach was chosen for the evaluation. Two school locations were analyzed in a case comparison, contrasting them in terms of relevant core educational dimensions (school engagement, classroom climate, self-efficacy, and career and study orientation). In addition, an in-depth analysis was carried out using qualitative interviews, group discussions, and document analyses. The results showed that the concept of the modular upper secondary school at the school location studied can be considered successful and contributes to an innovative and inclusive school culture.
