Internationally renowned Educational Researcher visiting the Education Sciences Group

Last week, we were delighted to welcome the internationally renowned education researcher Professor Dr Andreas Hadjar (University of Fribourg) to the Education Sciences Group at WU Vienna. In his lecture on 12 May 2026, he outlined various theoretical approaches to explaining educational inequality and presented the EU-funded research project PIONEERED, which examines educational inequalities in a European context.
The empirical findings show that disadvantages result from the unequal distribution of individual and structural resources. Furthermore, highly segregated education systems and residential segregation contribute significantly to the reproduction of educational inequalities, whilst less segregated systems can reduce their extent.
