Athanasios Orphanides: The ECB's Monetary - Policy Strategy Review

16/03/2021

Webinar on March 22, 5:00 pm!

The Covid-19 pandemic creates enormous challenges for economic policy. It serves as an early stress test for the new monetary policy frameworks which central banks are about to develop in the process of reviewing their strategies. What challenges does monetary policy face in the (post-)pandemic world saddled with high debt? Will current and future strategies  be effective at supporting the recovery?

From 2007 to 2012, Athanasios Orphanides served as Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus and was a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. Apart from his current professorship at MIT Sloan, he is also an Honorary Advisor to the Bank of Japan's Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies, a member of the Shadow Open Market Committee, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research, a Senior Fellow at the Center for Financial Studies, and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Monetary and Financial Stability.

The webinar is jointly organized by Aurel Schubert, former Director General Statistics, ECB and by the Institute for Analytical Economics at WU Vienna.

Webinar: March 22, 5:00 pm
