Ecological sustainability

In the field of ecological sustainability research, we focus on the diverse interactions between environmental changes, social structures, and the actions of organizations. Our emphasis is on shaping ecological transformation and exploring how ecological requirements can be aligned with social goals, as well as how emerging challenges can be successfully addressed organizationally. Our research in this field provides a solid basis for decision-making for stakeholders in the nonprofit sector, as well as for policymakers and administration.

We analyze how climatic changes, as well as activities related to climate protection and climate change adaptation, impact society and social infrastructure. We aim to demonstrate how ecological programs create measurable social value beyond purely technical or economic metrics and contribute to solving pressing social challenges. A particular focus is on measuring the impacts of climate change adaptation measures to ensure their effectiveness for affected groups and organizations and to strengthen resilience to environmental changes. We also address aspects of reporting, such as sustainability reporting according to CSRD/ESRS, which allows for the integration of impact-oriented sustainability aspects into the governance and communication of organizations.

Our work is characterized by a close connection between theory and practice. We employ a wide range of methodological approaches—from quantitative analyses and indicator models to qualitative organizational studies—to illuminate complex questions from various perspectives. Through collaboration with practitioners, we ensure that our research findings can directly contribute to the design of effective measures. We see ourselves as partners for stakeholders who think about ecological change and societal needs in an integrated manner.
