The real Viennese “Heuriger” or wine taverns…. Numerous songs have been dedicated to them; they have served as a backdrop for many films. However, in the legendarily comfortable atmosphere, they primarily offer the Viennese and their guests entertainment, fine Viennese wines and fitting culinary accompaniment. A place in which to feel good, in which everyone is warmly welcome. The real Viennese “Heuriger”, in which only Viennese wines are served, can be identified by a bunch of pine branches and by the word “Ausg’steckt” written on a board, which simultaneously shows when the tavern is open.

The ALA conference dinner will take place on Wednesday 20 July 2016 at the famous Heuriger Fuhrgassl-Huber.

Transport by bus from the conference venue will be offered. This is the occasion to taste the famous Viennese wines (and of course non-alcoholic beverages) on invitation of the Mayor of the City of Vienna and to enjoy a cold and hot buffet food with typical Austrian specialities (like Wiener Schnitzel), vegetarian food and – of course – a choice of desserts like Apfelstrudel or Topfenstrudel.

Weather permitting, we will spend the evening in the romantic garden, otherwise in the atmospheric wooden ambiance of the Heuriger.

The conference will take place on the brand new futuristic campus of the Vienna University of Economics and Business WU, designed by internationally recognized architects - Zaha Hadid's imposing library building stands out. The new location opened at winter semester 2013/14 is a university campus that offers both students and faculty ideal conditions for teaching and research. 25,000 students and 1,500 teachers, researchers and administrative staff are working on Campus WU.
