Arriving in Vienna by plane
  • VIE Vienna Airport (19 KM from WU Vienna)

Vienna International Airport (VIE) is located in Schwechat, a town near Vienna. The most convenient ways to reach the city and WU Vienna from the airport are by train or taxi.

There are two train options from the airport to the city: the City Airport Train (CAT) and the Austrian Railways (ÖBB) trains. The CAT is faster, reaching the city center without stops, but is more expensive (€14.90) compared to the ÖBB trains (€4.50).

Alternatively, you can take a taxi, which takes approximately 20 minutes to reach Vienna. However, fares can be €40 or more. Ride-hailing services such as Bolt or Uber may also be available depending on your arrival time.

Arriving in Vienna by train
  • Wien Hauptbahnhof (10 KM from WU Vienna)

If you arrive at Wien Hauptbahnhof, take the U1 (red metro line) to Praterstern. From there, transfer to the U2 (violet metro line) and travel one stop to Messe-Prater. A short 5- to 10-minute walk from Messe-Prater will take you directly to the WU Vienna campus.

Public Transport in Vienna: The public-transport network in Vienna is well-maintained and can be used for getting around in the city. Tickets need to be purchased and validated in advance of the trip. This can be done at the metro-station or online (Online-Shop Wiener Linien: 24/48/72-Hour tickets). If you take the train from the airport to the city, make sure the ticket includes the part of the route within the city boundaries.
