Simone Ghislandi holds a degree in Economics from Bocconi University, an MPhil and a DPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Public Finance from the University of Pavia. He joined WU from the Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management of the University of Bocconi. He is also a member of Centre of Health Economics and Management (CERGAS), the Carlo F. Dondena Centre for Research on Social Dynamics and Public Policy, both in Bocconi, and of the International Institute of Applied System Analysis (IIASA) in Vienna.

Research and plans

The research of Prof. Ghislandi has focused on issues related to the ex-ante and ex-post analysis of health policies and interventions, the socioeconomics of health and well-being and on the industrial organization of the pharmaceutical industry. On these topics, he has published on a variety of international economics, health policy and public health journals.

At WU, Prof. Ghislandi plans to continue his research relating the socioeconomics dimensions with health, behaviours and well-being. The use of existing general European and World surveys will be reinforced, strengthening also the network of collaborations with national and international centres. At the same time, the analysis of the Austrian Health and Pharmaceutical System will start covering a primary role in the research agenda, especially from a comparative perspective. For this purpose, the interaction with first-rated Austrian research centres and the active collaboration with the Association of the Austrian Social Security Institutions (Hauptverband) will be crucial.
