WU is working closely together with local authorities and monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) carefully. Any action we take is based on the recommendations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (in German only).

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:

FFP2 masks mandatory in public transport in all underground train stations and on coaches in Vienna.

  • It is a legal requirement that passengers on public transport must cover their mouths and noses with an FFP2 mask. The FFP2 mask requirement applies to all passengers, including those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

GENERAL RULES APPLY IN VIENNA:
  • Arrivals to Austria currently do NOT need "3-G" proof (vaccinated/recovered or tested).

  • There are no curfew hours or restrictions on leaving your home. You may go out at any time without requiring any special reason.

  • There are no restrictions for meeting people in a private setting.

  • The 3G rule does not apply at the workplace anymore.

  • All schools and kindergartens are open. All pupils and students are tested for the coronavirus on a regular basis.

  • Bars and restaurants are open. There are no G rules anymore.

  • Clubs and discos are open. There are no G rules anymore.

  • Hotels and lodgings are open. There are no G rules anymore.

  • All shops are open for everyone. FFP2 face masks are mandatory in pharmacies.

  • Close contact services (such as hairdressers, massage therapists, beauticians) are open. There are no G rules anymore.

  • Sports facilities such as gyms are open. There are no G rules anymore.

  • Museums, libraries and archives are open.

  • Theatre, cinema, opera are open.

  • Leisure facilities such as public outdoor pools, zoos, botanical gardens or amusement parks are open.

  • There are no rules for events and meetings.

  • In residential care homes for the elderly and similar facilities all visitors must present a valid negative PCR test result not older than 48 hours. Visitors must also wear an FFP2 face mask. The number of visitors per patient is not restricted anymore.

  • In hospitals in Vienna, all visitors must present a negative PCR test result not older than 48 hours. They must also wear an FFP2 face mask. The number of visitors per patient is not restricted anymore.

When to wear an FFP2 face mask:

  • In pharmacies.

  • On public transport, in all underground train stations and on coaches.

  • In healthcare facilities (e.g. doctor’s surgeries, hospitals, nursing homes, sanatoriums).
