ART ON CAMPUS

Part of WU is turning into a temporary art gallery: ART ON CAMPUS, an art project by the University of St. Gallen, will be displayed in the public areas of the D2 building from May 23 to July 1, 2016.

The University of St. Gallen not only curates a large art collection, it also runs the ART ON CAMPUS project, which offers young, up-and-coming artists a platform to show their work. At the moment, the collection includes fifteen works, mainly by independent artists who are not subject themselves to the usual demands and constraints of the art market and shun conventional art distribution channels.

The artworks, in the form of video installations, photography, sculpture, and paintings, become part of university life for the students, staff, and visitors to the school. Apart from their sensual, aesthetic appeal, the works also address pressing social issues.

To help increase the visibility of the collection beyond the walls of St. Gallen, eight selected works are going on tour to some of the university’s international partner schools. WU is very pleased to be the first stop on the ART ON CAMPUS itinerary. This joint art project of the two business and economics universities is intended to bring art to the WU student community in a different setting than conventional museums or art galleries.
