During the last ten to fifteen years there has been an increasing trend towards negotiating bilateral or ‘mega-regional’ trade agreements like CETA, TTIP and TPP, moving away from the traditional WTO multilateralism. More recently, however, democratic and geopolitical challenges have shed a more critical light on this trend towards bilateralism and regionalism.

Against this background, Univ.Prof. Dr. Verena Madner (together with Univ.Prof. i.R. Dr. Fritz Breuss, Univ.Prof. Dr. Erich Vranes, LL.M. and Dr. Jörg Wojahn, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Austria) in a public lecture of the Department of Public Law and Tax Law discussed the question in how far globalisation today was at a crossroads. The subsequent discussion was moderated by the Head of the Department, Univ.Prof. Dr. Michael Holoubek.
