Just published: Birgit Hollaus’ monograph on Environmental Compliance Mechanisms and EU law

09/08/2023

With the EU having developed into an active international actor, EU policies are more and more influenced by international law obligations, processes, and institutions.

With the EU having developed into an active international actor, EU policies are more and more influenced by international law obligations, processes, and institutions. The EU’s environmental policy is no exception in this regard. Birgit Hollaus takes this development as the starting point for her new book, Multilateral Compliance Mechanisms in EU Environmental Law, published with Edward Elgar. Prompted by recent events in the EU’s international environmental cooperation, she examines the role of compliance mechanisms in EU environmental action, from establishing these treaty-based mechanisms within EU legal boundaries, to utilising non-compliance decisions at EU level. In doing so, Birgit is able to identify the extent to which EU law enables the EU to preserve, protect, and improve the global environment with the aid of compliance mechanisms, as required by its own Treaties.

The first chapter of Birgit’s monograph is available to read for free at ElgarOnline. For those interested, the book is ready to order – as a hardback or ebook – via the EdwardElgar onlineshop.
