Birgit Hollaus participated in the 20^th Annual Colloquium of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law, held from 31 July to 4 August 2023 at the University of Eastern Finland and its Center for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law. Birgit contributed to the panel on the governance with and of emerging technologies with a presentation on the precautionary principle and its role – in the current state of things – for regulating technologies. She examined the EU Commission’s discretion in the necessary risk assessment and, focusing on scientific uncertainty, enquired into what it means for designing regulatory acts, their implementation and judicial control.
