Eva More-Hollerweger, Selma Sprajcer, and Julian Kettl from the Center for NPOs and Social Impact, commissioned by the Austrian Federal Chancellery, analyzed the social and economic added value of the Austrian civil service for the years 2010, 2019, and 2023 in three studies. In these studies, they compared the costs and benefits generated by the civil service for key stakeholders with a hypothetical alternative scenario. This alternative scenario models the complete abolition of the civil service at the beginning of the observed year. The study results show that the civil service provides a clear social added value in all observed years. This article presents the key findings of our current study for the year 2023.
