Mission Statement

The research activities at the Department of Public and Tax Law at WU focus on International, European and Austrian Public Law, Tax Law and Criminal Law. Within these legal areas, special emphasis is placed on questions regarding regulatory control and compliance.

The Institutes within the Department are responsible for the respective courses offered in the Business Law Programs, just as for the respective legal subjects in the Economics degree programs at WU.

With regard to European and public law, we focus our research on market regulation and market patterns, on the European Single Market, on environmental law, planning law, and on the processes involved in implementing legally protected interests (legal protection), including the protection of fundamental human rights.

In tax law, our department focuses on corporate tax law as well as European and international tax law, in particular tax treaty law.

The main focus in Criminal Law is set on Economic and Financial Criminal Law.
