Leila Cornips visits the Public Governance Institute at the KU Leuven

23/01/2024

From September to November 2023, Leila Cornips has visited the Public Governance Institute at the KU Leuven (Belgium). She engaged with a diverse group of scholars and researchers, and worked on collaborative interdisciplinary projects. The main research focus was centered on participatory approaches to research and urban policymaking. During the research visit, Leila collaborated on projects that delved into citizen science and knowledge co-production.

Additionally, a new research project delving into community engagement in urban development emerged as a direct outcome of the visit, further expanding the scope of her research contributions. These studies yield particular relevance to civil society studies, as it examined the intricate intersections between governance, citizen participation, and community development. Besides spending time at the KU Leuven, Leila also had the opportunity to work together with scholars at other Flemish universities. Through this, she had the chance to engage in local Flemish culture, adding a layer of practical experience to her theoretical knowledge. The academic and cultural immersion and collaborative projects provided an understanding of contemporary challenges in urban governance in the Flemish region of Belgium. Leila returned back to Vienna with not only novel academic insights but also a practical appreciation for the complexities of participatory research.
