TRANSREAL – TRANSformative REALism for effective climate action

The TRANSREAL project, financed by the Klima- und Energiefonds, is concerned with transformative climate action. The measures necessary for achieving climate policy goals are still lagging behind, which is why an enormous need for action remains. In the project, we address this necessity by combining pragmatic with radical action in the policy field of settlement structures. The long-term climate policy goal of staying within planetary boundaries must be linked to the short-term goals of securing immediate livelihoods. To initiate transformative policies and practices, we are working in the municipalities St. Johann in Tyrol and Pöllau in Styria. In each region, participatory processes have been launched and concrete policy measures are derived through workshops. Furthermore, TRANSREAL also aims to strengthen the knowledge alliances of different actors in Austria: from the public administration, local and national experts, policy makers and regional managers to activists of social movements. The results of the project will benefit policy making at different levels, knowledge transfer to other rural areas, and support for citizen engagement.
