About WU Legal Tech Center

WU Legal Tech Center

The WU Legal Tech Center (WU LTC) is a third-party funded educational and research institution affiliated with the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna). Established in 2021 by Professor Christoph Krönke (now at the University of Bayreuth) and Sophie Martinetz (Founder and CEO of Future-Law - the leading consulting firm for Legal Tech in Austria), WU LTC is the first center in Austria at the intersection of legal practice and comprehensive legal research in the field of Legal Technology (Legal Tech), i.e., the technology-supported application and enforcement of law.

The goal of WU LTC is to bridge the gap between legal science and the impact of digitization, privatization, and economization on legal application. As an academic institution, WU LTC focuses on research and education to investigate the effects of technology – such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Blockchain – on legal application and enforcement (e.g., legal advice through chatbots, IT systems for automated decision-making in authorities and courts, online court proceedings, etc.) and to convey this information to students and the public. WU LTC follows an interdisciplinary approach in this regard.

Research and education are conducted not only academically but also in joint discussions and cooperation with users from the judiciary, administration, and legal consulting, as well as developers (technology companies and startups) of Legal Tech. WU LTC is currently led by Associate Professor Claudia Wutscher and Sophie Martinetz.

Funded by the Vienna Business Agency. A service offered by the City of Vienna.
