Transforming Care Workshop

The Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien) hosted a workshop for doctoral students and early-career researchers on the topic “Researching Care and Care Policy in Europe.”

From 29 June to 1 July, 2026 WU Wien hosted the PhD and Early Career Researcher Workshop “Researching Care and Care Policy in Europe: Emerging Topics in Care and Care Policy”.

The workshop, organized by the Institute for Social Policy, provided space for interdisciplinary exchange, discussion and networking for prae- and post-docs from across Europe (and beyond), researching early childhood education and care, care for adults with disabilities, and long-term care for frail older people.  Key topics covered in two keynotes and 40 presentations included the concept of care; care policies in the context of economic, environmental and social sustainability; working conditions and recruitment strategies for care workers; migrant care work(ers); informal care; the impact of digitalization on care systems; inequalities in care and care provision and underlying dynamics; care systems in comparative perspective; multilevel governance of care policies.
