On 13 November 2025, Professor Judith Froese, Chair of Public Law and Legal Philosophy at the University of Konstanz, gave a lecture on the topic “Defence through Words? On the Admissibility and Limits of Communicative Constitutional Defence” at the IIR. She provided a clear introduction to the instruments of defensive democracy in Germany (such as, in particular, party funding bans and the forfeiture of fundamental rights) and subsequently addressed the limits of communicative constitutional defence using specific statements by public officials.  Following the fascinating lecture, a very lively discussion took place, during which the comparative legal analysis with Austria was also addressed in particular. The lecture was organised in collaboration with Professor Alexander Somek from the University of Vienna.
