Position in IIB, other positions and academic career

Maria joined the Institute for International Business as a Research and Teaching Associate in the Department of Global Business and Trade in January 2023. She holds a master’s degree in International Business Administration from the University of Vienna where she specialized in International Business and International Marketing and a bachelor’s degree in International Business Administration from the Vienna University of Economics and Business where she specialized in Entrepreneurship and Innovation as well as International Marketing Management.
Before joining the WU, Maria worked for the Austrian Institute of Technology on research papers for the European Commission and The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies on topics related to exporting and midcaps. She also worked as freelance researcher on a Family Firm Internationalization paper for the Chair of International Business at the University of Vienna. Other than her research experience, she has a background in digital marketing and event planning.

Research interest

Maria’s PhD research interest is on internationalization and funding of startups. Specifically, the focus is put on the influence of various capabilities, such as marketing and social media capabilities on the internationalization decisions and performance of startups. Moreover, her research also includes venture capital and business angel investments in startups and the gender funding gap related to these.
