  • studied law in Vienna (magister iuris 1991, doctor iuris 1994) and Paris and at Harvard Law School (LL.M. 1994)

  • end of 1994: member of the Department for Legal Affairs in European Integration in the Constitutional Law Section of the Austrian Federal Chancellery

  • from 1995 to 2003 member of the chambers of Judge Dr Peter Jann at the European Court of Justice

  • since September 2003 member of the European Commission Legal Service

  • postdoctoral qualification to lecture in European law (Habilitation) obtained at the University of Graz in 2004

  • honorary professor of European Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (since 2010)

  • since June 2013 legal adviser in the European Commission Legal Service

  • EU Fellow at Yale University (2013-2014)

  • since September 2015 assistant to the Director-General of the European Commission Legal Service

  • has taught and published extensively on various matters of European Union law
