How does the challenge work?
We are looking for ideas for a WU app and offer support with phrasing and concept development. The top 10 ideas will make it to the finals and get the chance to win the 1.000 EUR prize!
Why should I participate?
There is something that annoys you since your first day at WU/uni? You are experiencing problems in your daily uni life? Get active and help us making WU a better place.
The Vice Rector's Council for Academic Programs and Student Affairs and the WU Entrepreneurship Center are looking for innovative app ideas that will improve everyday life at WU.
Get creative and join us on our mission! By entering, you get the chance to receive hands-on training for turning your idea in reality and ongoing support and mentoring from WU Gründungszentrum. And who knows - maybe you will be the one to win the 1,000€ prize money?
You don’t need coding skills to take part - all you need is a simple idea. A fair course registration app? A menu plan chatbot? Classroom Maps? Whatever it is - we are looking forward to receiving creative ideas that will improve University life.
Who can take part?
All students of the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien) can particpate. If you enter the competetion as a team, at least one person that we can contact needs to be from WU. You can find more detailed information in the conditions of participation.
How does the challenge work?
If your idea gets chosen among the top ten, we will invite you to a workshop where we will help you to fine-tune your idea and build a first prototype. Afterwards, you will receive ongoing mentoring and support from us, if you decide to continue working on the idea. Furthermore, the overall winner of the competition will receive 1,000€ and possibly additional resources and financing.
I am not sure if my idea is good. Is there anyone who could give me feedback?Answer >>>
Yes, of course! Come to one of our community sessions in November (15.11) and December (20.12) or register for the Gründungszentrum Founders Advice.
My idea is still relatively vague – is that OK?Answer >>>
Probably, it's best if you join us at our community sessions and we will help you to narrow it down and develop an app concept. But you don’t need a business plan or coding know-how to participate in the contest.
I would like to participate but I have no idea. Is there anything I can do?Answer >>>
Yes! We will host community sessions in November (15.11) and December (20.12). Just come by, we will try to get your creative juices flowing and match you with likeminded peers. Moreover you can get in touch with the WU Entrepreneurship Center team, who are happy to help you.
I have already developed an app that could be useful for WU. Can I still participate?Answer >>>
We are very sorry, but we are looking for new ideas that haven’t been implemented up to now. So if your app is already on the market, you are not allowed to participate. However, if you have a prototype that is not yet publicly accessible, you can still enter the competition.
How do you define "app"?Answer >>>
We interpret “app” quite broadly - you are not limited to mobile apps. Your idea can also be for a web application, a chatbot or any other kind of application. If you are unsure whether your specific idea fulfils the requirements you can also ask us in person at the community events or send us an email.
I have a question that you haven’t answered yet – what shall I do?Answer >>>
Just shoot as an Email to firstname.lastname@example.org, visit us during our office hours (every Tuesday from 1 to 5 pm) or come to one of our community sessions in november (15.11) or december (20.12) and we’ll try to provide you with the information.
