Richard Bärnthaler is an interdisciplinary urban scholar and pre-doc research assistant, focusing on social-ecological transformations of cities. His main interests concern the re/production and strengthening of the foundational economy and social-ecological infrastructures as well as the analysis of power and new forms of alliance building. He is also committed to improving and re-conceptualizing socio-economic education so that students can better learn to deal with the deeply contradictive structures of contemporary society. Richard teaches on topics related to green gentrification. He has a background in “Social-Ecological Economics and Policy” (MSc, Vienna University of Economics and Business) and “History and Philosophy of Science” (MA, University of Vienna). He had study and research stays in the United States (Bentley University), Japan (Hitotsubashi University) as well as Belgium (KU Leuven) and, from 2016 to 2019, worked at the Department of Development Studies (University of Vienna) on a capacity-building project to foster multi-lateral knowledge networks of transdisciplinary studies in Thailand and Vietnam.
