Head of the Research Institute for Family Business, Associate Professor in the Department of Management

Alexander Kessler is head of the Research Institute for Family Business and an associate professor in the Department of Management at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business. He received his doctorate and postdoctoral qualification (Habilitation) from WU Vienna.

His research comprises (corporate) entrepreneurship and family business topics with current foci on innovation and digitalization in family businesses and the functioning and management of business families. His work has been published in journals including Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Family Business Review, Journal of Family Business Management, British Journal of Management, and Industrial and Corporate Change. He is a member of the editorial board of Family Business Review and the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA) and regularly reviews for journals including Journal of Family Business Strategy, Journal of Small Business Management, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice.

Alexander Kessler received several awards for his research, including the „Wilford White Fellows Award“ of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), the “Emerald Literati Awards for Excellence”, the „Rudolf Sallinger Award for SME Research”, and some awards of WU Vienna for journal publications.

He teaches courses on strategic management, marketing management, and master’s thesis coaching in the Master’s Program Management at WU Vienna.
